We have started out mapping the media art preservation infrastructure in Europe — mostly country-by-country, but also including international endeavours that function beyond state divides. A key contribution of this resource survey is to identify local disparities in provision, with the goal of building an accessible, comprehensive knowledge base.
Mapping is also an exercise in collaboration: no single person holds all the knowledge for each region and country. It is equally an exercise in building and expanding the network — bringing people together to share and exchange knowledge, discuss categories and definitions, and jointly structure the gathered information.
