Taking place in the wonderful setting of Madrid and one of Europe’s leading art museums, the EMBARK conference will bring together speakers and participants from across Europe and further afield to present and discuss the state of the art and current issues in preservation of Europe’s media art. This inaugural event in the series of three (2027-2029) will present work developed within the EU-funded EMBARK network over the past year, and explore future directions, with the aim of establishing discussions, partnerships and alliances that strengthen the stewardship of this heritage.
The conference will bring together the range of perspectives, knowledge and initiatives coming together and cross-pollinating within EMBARK and its working groups. Topics will reflect the activities and focus of each of the five Working Groups, and span subjects such as available infrastructures and infrastructural needs; methods, processes and tools; issues specific to art dependent on software and the blockchain, digital platforms and technologies; the use of AI in preservation; documentation as a conservation strategy and sustainable practices.
This will be an opportunity not only to learn about EMBARK activities, but to engage with participants from a wide diversity of disciplines, institutions, and European regions.
